Lamb is a good source of zinc, a mineral that affects many fundamental processes, perhaps the most important of which is immune function. If one mineral were singled out for its beneficial effects on the immune system, zinc would lead the pack. A cofactor in a wide variety of enzymatic reactions, zinc is critical not only to immune function, but for wound healing, and normal cell division. Zinc also helps stabilize blood sugar levels and the body’s metabolic rate, and is necessary for an optimal sense of smell and taste.

Why Do Make-ahead Recipes Work so Well to Reduce your Dinner Party Stress?

lamb recipes

One of the “tricks” I find most useful for hosting stress-free dinner parties is to make some of the recipes ahead. I find that too many last minute jobs can overwhelm me, so I plan ahead to eliminate as many as possible.

The more dishes you can prepare a day or some hours before guests ring your doorbell, the more you reduce your stress. Here are some reasons:

• You avoid a last minute crisis if preparation takes longer than you thought it would.

• If you like to cook, you’ll have the leisure to enjoy what you’re doing instead of feeling frantic about a deadline

• You have time to clean up after you cook.

• If there is a disaster, say you burn something, you have plenty of time to come up with an alternate plan.

• If you have prepared the dessert ahead, you don’t need to leave the table for a long stretch just when the conversation is getting really interesting.

Sunday Lunch, Sunday Tea, Recipe, Bacon and Egg Pie

lamb recipes

A few weeks ago we had the family over for Sunday lunch, nine adults, four grandkids. My wife as usual turned out a cracking meal, Roast beef and lamb – The grandkids prefer lamb – roast potatoes, roast parsnip, cauliflower, small boiled potatoes, carrots and of course Yorkshire puddings with gravy and mint sauce for the lamb. All prepared and cooked by my long suffering wife, the only exception being the Yorkshire puddings which were precooked by “Aunty Bessie” and only needed to be heated in the oven. If you haven’t tried “Auntie Bessie’s” Yorkshire puddings, try them, they taste so good and are so reasonably priced that it isn’t worth the time and effort of making your own.

Anyway after singing the praises of “Aunty Bessie,” I am blithering on as usual and need to get to the point. Well, after overindulging, also as usual, I sat with the two great grandmothers; my mum and my mother-in- law and we began to reminisce about Sunday teatime in those far off days when I was a lad. Everything then seemed to be home made and I might be wrong, but to my mind, while the purse wasn’t deep, the table always seemed to be laden with goodies.

Great Barbeque Cookout Tips

lamb recipes

It won’t be long before school’s out and the summer holidays are approaching. My kids are already packing the RV, we’re not even going for another two weeks but I can’t dampen their spirits.

I’ve still got a good few days left of work so I can’t afford to let myself go yet but just as I see the excitement in the kids’ eyes I know that I’ll be the same once I get the portable grill out of the garage.

I love to camp in Europe not just because of the freedom to go anywhere but also because of the myriad of interesting people that I meet on the way. Walk around the campsite anytime after 1.00pm and you’ll start to see the smoke rising as the families gather for a lunchtime cookout. Provided I prefix my introduction with a polite “Bon Appetite” or “Buen Provecho” I can usually get to have a recce, see what’s cooking and how they’re doing it and the best bit of course is when the complement is returned and they come over to see what I’m cooking.

Common Tips you Can not Ignore When Making Steak Recipes

lamb recipes

Steak is one of the common elements of international cuisine, regardless of its specificity; the only variations are those related to cooking modes and seasonings. The uniqueness of the steak recipes is actually given by that one ingredient that makes a dish different from another one in almost all aspects, since taste change is actually the rule that governs gastronomy in general. Furthermore, dressings, sauces, salads and side dishes contribute to the differentiation of steak recipes; it is one thing to fry beef and serve it as such, and it is something else to add raw vegetables and let them sear together.

Then, we could easily say that beef is to the western world, what lamb is to the eastern one; but steak recipes for such kinds of meat have common points that cannot be ignored. For instance, adding wine when cooking meat is perhaps among the most frequent shortcuts taken to enhance flavor and speed up the tenderizing process of the muscular fiber. Steak recipes that rely on red wine usually require laurel leaves, green and black pepper beans as well as several cloves of fresh garlic. Take one of these ingredients out and the taste will not be the same.
